Today officially marks two weeks since we packed up our lives and relocated to the Pacific Northwest! It feels like it’s been much longer, since we’ve been making the most of our days! Micah got a sweet gig at Amazon that he couldn’t refuse and I’m always up for an adventure so we decided to jump ship. We were in Houston for little over four years and knew it was time to move on.
So far, Amazon has been so good to us. They provided a relocation package that’s made our transition seamless. Currently we’re in temporary housing, that they provided, until we find a permanent residence. The last two weeks we’ve been checking out the many neighborhoods Seattle has to offer and acting like tourists. I had no idea Seattle was like New York in the sense of how many small to big neighborhoods they have. And they’re all very different. It’s been really fun exploring our new city but by the end of last week I was over packing up the kids and driving around everyday. We also got a city pass which allowed us to visit the biggest attractions the city has to offer at a discounted rate. It included a visit to the zoo, the space needle, argosy cruise, and the aquarium. The pacific science center was also included but we didn’t make it to that one since we only had 9 days to use the pass. The zoo by far was the best attraction. Really felt like we were in the wilderness. I even got smacked by a bird! That wasn’t included in the package! lol
The weather has been lovely! We’ve had more sunny days than rainy days. Perfect weather for walking, which EVERYONE does here. Micah walks to work everyday and it takes him about 14 mins. When it does rain, most of the time it’s only for a few hours and then the sun comes out. Daylight savings has been kicking our butts, though. Sun rises at 7:30am and sets at 4:30pm! We hear it can rain up to 22 days straight in the winter… not really looking forward to that!
Micah’s first day was yesterday. He had about a month to transition to his new job and we got to spend so much time with him which was AWESOME! Since he went back to work, I had to pull up my big-girl pants and get back to managing the home and kids. It’s been so nice having a totally empty schedule. Two things I’ve been focusing on are healthier eating and getting connected with other moms in the area. Today I went to a moms’ group that one of the churches we visited offers every Tuesday called Mom to Mom. It was soooo good being around other moms who are in the same season of life that I’m in and who just so happen to be believers. It was comforting to know that our joys and struggles are the same no matter where we are in the country. I’m beyond excited to see what the Lord has for us here. I’ve learned staying connected to Him and His people is essential.
Two Sundays, two churches! We loved them both, though for different reasons. Both sermons were spot-on and the people were so genuine. We’re planning on visiting a few more before we make a decision. If you think of it, pray that the Lord shows us clearly where He’d like us to fellowship.
Here are some pics from our adventures in Emerald City!
Until next time!
